siri found another easter basket left by the bunny (a.k.a. dory/maia's grandmother)
super excited for egg!
lone blue egg
eggs in carton ready for pick up by easter bunny
blue = purple cabbage; yellow = carrot tops, grapefruit skin and tumeric; gray (which was supposed to be violet) = red wine and hibiscus tea. designs courtesy of rubber bands. i intend to experiment more with dyes next year as i had a lot of fun making them :)

we spent easter with aunt jenn, uncle todd, maia and the murdock-cort family (plus todd's parents). siri had a blast hunting for eggs, and i had fun making the dye -- some colors turned out better than others. i'm a novice when it comes to easter. as immigrant heathens, my parents didn't know much about the holiday, and the most we ever did was take part in large egg hunts at local parks. i thought one used plastic bags to collect eggs. we did dye eggs a few times, especially when my sister was of age to hunt for them.

nevertheless, we are establishing new easter rules in the pan rosenberg household. 1. we dye the real eggs, and decorate plastic eggs for the easter bunny to pick up. the logistics haven't really been worked out, but the easter bunny comes at night and picks up the eggs. 2. the parents leave a note for the bunny telling him where we will be the following day. 3. in exchange for decorated eggs, the easter bunny leaves a basket full of goodies. 4. easter morning is akin to xmas morning where one discovers the goodies. 5. we look for the eggs that the easter bunny hid. siri had a lot of questions and seemed rather skeptical about the easter bunny. jeff and i realized after the fact, we didn't share that the easter bunny is huge, so is quite capable of carrying eggs and hiding them. i can understand the confusion, and imagery of a tiny bunny rabbit trying to pick up eggs with its paws. may we spin a better tale next year.

you forgot to mention that the easter bunny eats you if you don't leave eggs. or whatever the story was. but that seems like a rather important aspect of the holiday, as told by siri.
