Siri -- week 11

Siri is now 11 weeks! We've had a lot of fun visiting with family members in Oregon and tomorrow we go to Seattle with my brother for a couple of days before heading back to Irvine. Here are some recent pictures of Siri sleeping, hanging out with family members and being a loner.

Siri and Santa

We saw Santa Claus outside the Whiteside theatre yesterday and since there was no line, we seized the opportunity to take yet another Santa photo.

Siri -- week 10

Here are some pictures of Siri from this week. We've been in Oregon for several days now and the snow has stopped but the rain has settled in. Siri is adapting to being around family members, but was overstimulated and acted out a bit last night.

Snow in Oregon

Siri and I have been in Oregon for roughly four days now and it's been cold, rainy and snowy. Unfortunately, Siri is not old enough to appreciate the snow, but I'm enjoying it from indoors.

Siri is talking a lot now. My mom says she's talking more than I was at her age, and I started *really* talking at 10 months. Perhaps she'll beat her momma in the talking category. She mostly makes grunty and cooing noises, squeals a lot and insists on prolonged conversations. She's enjoying all the attention here from humans and cats alike.

I'm hoping to update some pictures in the next day or so -- I have some super cute ones.

Siri -- week eight

Here are the pictures! Several were taken today; a couple of Siri during tummy time (see, the ravings about her head lifting are all true), and the one of her just now. Jeff was on the phone and carrying her at the same time and she just sort of fell asleep. Plus, a family photo taken with anorexic-Santa last Saturday (at the nearby Albertson's) and another pic of Siri sleeping cutely.

Siri all smiles

I don't have a picture yet to upload, but I do have this very cute video of Siri taken last Wednesday. We can't seem to ever capture a good picture of her smiling, so a video will have to do -- I'm not sure why it insists on being sideways.

Oh, and p.s. I passed my defense, which means I'm now ABD (all but dissertation).

Holiday Plans

Apologies to blog-followers, I have no picture to upload this week. We're in the midst of end of quarter/semester craziness. Jeff has finals starting next week and I'm defending my dissertation proposal on the 10th (Wednesday). We've still been spending a lot of time with our little one, buy just haven't really taken any pictures. I will update the blog as soon as I'm done with the defense with cute pictures of Siri. Promise.

Major milestones this week: squeals with delight when excited to play, can recognize mommy and daddy's voices, and can lift her head up steadier than the week before.

Folks in Oregon may be interested in our holiday plans. Siri and I will be flying into PDX on December 15th and Jeff will be getting in on December 19th. We plan to stay in Corvallis until the 29th or so and travel north to Seattle with my brother. The Pan-Rosenberg family will return to the OC on January 1st.

Siri -- week seven

Siri celebrated her first Thanksgiving in a cute scottie dog outfit that Jeff and I bought her when we visited Big Bear (see late August/early September posting). She was the only one dressed up for the occasion as we just lounged around in pjs all day. She went on her first major outing yesterday -- to a bar to watch the Civil War with other SoCal OSU alum decked out in orange and white. Actually, she slept the entire time but we discovered that she hates clapping, loud cheering and jeering since she stirred each time any of those three happened. Major milestones this week: using her hands a lot more to bat at things on her playmat. She can lift her head really well when placed on our shoulders and on her tummytime pillow (about 90 degrees). Also, she's making more noises aside from the newborn coos. She has added "ah goo" and "l(n)ey" to her repertoire.

Here are some photos from Thanksgiving as she gets progressively more and more restless then calms down briefly before fussing.

starved for attention

Evie has been pretty starved for attention these past six weeks. Here she is curled in the laundry bag as soon as the clothes were taken out of the dryer.

Siri -- six weeks

Since I'm breastfeeding, Jeff has been lulling Siri to sleep so he has some bonding time as well. She is now used to that routine and prefers Jeff's singing and rocking as opposed to mine :( Needless to say, it is a bit difficult to put her down for naps on days when Jeff has classes.

Two major milestones this week: she laughed for the first time Thursday morning. We were playing after dressing her and she was smiling a ton and then laughed. She also laughed this morning. I try to respond quickly to her with smiles and words of congratulations every time she smiles so that she is socialized to know that smiling (and soon, laughing) is a good thing :) She is able to lift her head more than last week thanks to plenty of tummy time and shoulder time, although she prefers the latter.

Here are some pictures from this week. Her hair is getting lighter and her eyes have transitioned from a slate blue to now a light brown. If they stayed slate blue I would've had to explore my ancestry and find that European gene.

Siri -- week five

These past five weeks have been rather trying as we learn the ropes of parenthood and how to function without much sleep. Siri is getting bigger and changing by the day -- her hair is super long now that she constantly sports a 'hawk. She's been getting a lot of tummy time and is smiling a lot more at us -- unfortunately, we haven't really captured many of the smiles in photos. Here are some pictures taken today; it was 90 degrees out (yes, not typical SoCal "Fall" weather) so Siri hung out all day in pseudo beachwear. Finally, a picture of Siri taken yesterday with her face pressed against mommy's as she drifts off to sleep.

Siri and family members...

Here's a random mix of Siri with various family members...and just of her being cute in general.

Siri -- weeks 3&4

Siri has had a busy couple of weeks with visitors coming to see her: auntie Jenn, Nana and uncle Todd. We've been making weekly doctor's office visits to check her weight gain since the doctors and nurses tend to be obsessed with some set standard based on formula-fed babies. Siri has also changed a lot in her looks and we're getting to know her personality a little bit more -- she is the perfect blend of her parents: takes a long time to fall asleep, loves to sleep once she does, and lacks patience! Here are some pictures for your enjoyment...

* Siri and Auntie Jenn
* Siri getting her first mail: Halloween card from Auntie Chrissy and Lao Lao and social security card

Siri -- week two

Siri is now 18 days old and we are thoroughly sleep-deprived and delirious most of the time. Jeff has been to class only once, which should begin changing soon with our next set of visitors helping out at home. Here are some photos from my brother and Hanh's visit last week and just some day-to-day happenings around the house. Evie is still not a fan of the baby and has moved into the guest room more or less permanently. We try to give her attention but I think she knows she's been demoted...
