Siri turned 3 last Tuesday, and we held a party for her the weekend prior. Given that her planned playground party was rained out last year, we decided to play it safe and held her party at American Gymnastics Club (Siri takes gymnastics with the same school, but different location). The venue is brand new, and when we checked it out in August, Siri immediately fell in love with it. And, it was the only place that charged less for facility rental than all the others I was considering.

Chrissy (aka ah yi) visited, and with her creativity and patience, we made cake pops. The trial run the weekend prior was a total disaster, but the cake pops turned out perfectly with Chrissy in the kitchen, and we only had two casualties. The verdict: cake pops are really easy to make, but are also very time consuming. So, I probably won't be making them again...unless Chrissy is around to help :) Since I had to plan the party, secure the venue, make the cake, etc., etc., I put Jeff in charge of food duty. But, I also told him that I didn't want pizza since Siri isn't a big fan anyway. He went with a mediterranean spread from a restaurant in our neighborhood, which consisted of dolmas, baba ghanoush, hummus, Armenian potato salad, and other tasty finger foods. The guests loved it, and we both got many complements on the food choice.

The party was a success, to say the least. The kids had a good time taking part in a mini gymnastics lesson, ate, played in the play area, and gobbled up cake pops. Many parents appreciated that this three-year-old bday party was not just pizza and juice, and one parent texted me on Monday to thank us again for including them in Siri's celebration. But, Jeff insists that Siri's party will be much more low key next year...so, I guess the party planning duties will fall on him then :)
