offer letter signed!
signing offer letter
getting ready to sign offer letterso, it's official, we're new york bound! after months of disappointment, i had two on-campus interviews: brooklyn college - cuny, and clarion university of pennsylvania. both interviews went well, and i was offered positions at both schools. but, brooklyn made the most sense and is the best fit. i felt that i clicked instantaneously with the faculty when i visited, and the tenure requirements include a nice mix of teaching and research (although primarily teaching). clarion however, had no research requirement. and while i could see a seasoned professor being happy in a small town, with a *very* slow pace of life, this was not the place for someone at the beginning of their career, and has an interest in continuing research.
we are excited about the job, albeit a little apprehensive about living in new york. i'm sure we'll adapt and get used to the east coat...or maybe not. so, here's what's left to do before my late august start date: complete my dissertation, find a preschool for siri (or beg to be let in since we're so late in the application process), jeff needs to find a job, we need a place to live, jeff needs to take the ny bar exam, i need to prep two new classes that i've never taught before, and i need to revise an article that just received a conditional accept to a journal. oh yeah, and i need to prepare for and attend two conferences: one in june (honolulu with partial funding!!!) and another in mid august (denver). plus, take part in commencement. and, squeeze in a trip to taiwan for my grandmother's 80th birthday. nope, not much going on here at all! no sleep 'til brooklyn. literally.
