on being an expecting graduate student...
i'm feeling a bit anxious these days. i'm happy and looking forward to a new addition into our lives, but at the same time, i'm super apprehensive. the qualms about whether i'd be a good parent aside, i question whether i will continue to be a good grad student, and more importantly, scholar. as i'm beginning to feel a bit more energized (minus the occasional headaches and lightheadedness), i'm also trying to focus more on my work. i need a dissertation question. i don't need a theme or idea, per se as i've had one for the past year now. but, how to piece together these strands into a coherent idea...i don't know. i feel more and more anxious as i'd like to have something concrete before the end of summer, or rather, much sooner. i've been so anxious that all i wanted to do after i woke up at 5:00am to go to the bathroom was read. so, that's what i've been doing: reading. it's saturday and i'm tired but i can't fall back asleep. i wonder if this is common amongst any expecting professional, especially women. this anxiety thing. i'm sure men have their share of concerns and anxiety as well, but they are not responsible for the development and growth of another human being, undergoing a body that is physically changing, combating the unpleasant symptoms of pregnancy, and striving to be a rock star at their careers. ugh! i need a concrete question soon or else i might just become perpetually sleep-deprived...
