we make kind of a bi-monthly shopping trip to one of our three haunts: whole foods, trader joe's or mother's. today was a whole foods day. the bill at these places generally comes out to be about the same -- roughly $150.00. it's kind of ridiculous how expensive good, healthy produce and other food products cost. no wonder our nation's poorest are overly obese and struggling with rising diabetes rates. yet, it's not their fault. many just do not know any better. it has to do with our society's values. some latinos just pulled up in a truck and are rifling through our dumpster right now, looking for recyclables or other goods with which they can reuse or get a minor refund...
the world is becoming more and more bifurcated, socioeconomically. i think about this all the time. if a crazy, born again fundamentalist becomes our next president, i may cash in on that dual citizenship. but, then again, if that's who becomes the leader of the U.S. the rest of the world wouldn't necessarily fare any better. so, what should one do with one's life? ruminate over these vast injustices and inequalities or adopt the ostrich strategy?
